TUDOR Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue

Inspired by a legend

The original TUDOR Black Bay Fifty-Eight model with black and gold detailing was released at Baselworld 2018. TUDOR pleased watch enthusiasts by unveiling an exciting new model named and sized after TUDOR's first, legendary divers’ watch; the TUDOR Oyster Prince Submariner watch (reference 7924) released back in 1958.

With demand for the original TUDOR Black Bay Fifty-Eight still very high, the TUDOR Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue was a resounding success and makes perfect sense for TUDOR to revisit the heritage inspired model only two years later with the additional colour option of blue.

The Essence of Black Bay

As with other models in the famous Black Bay line, including its predecessor, the new TUDOR Fifty-Eight "Navy Blue" features design elements that referrer back to the very first TUDOR divers’ watches.

The domed blue dial of the new Black Bay Fifty-Eight "Navy Blue" is inspired by that of TUDOR divers’ watches of the 1950’s and has adopted the luminescent painted hour markers and signature “snowflake” hands that featured in the 1969 catalogue.

Another characteristic of the first-generation TUDOR divers’ watches acquired by this new model is the large winding crown, enabling waterproofing of up to 200 metres (660 ft).

Of course, being a present-day divers’ watch, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight consists of the same modern-day manufacturing techniques, reliability, robustness and quality that the TUDOR Black Bay collection is renowned for.

Case Design

The case size of the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue measures at 39mm in diameter, the same of that featured on the 1958 TUDOR Oyster Prince Submariner. Designed for the slimmer wrist and watch enthusiasts alike, the polished and satin finished stainless-steel case is adorned by a matt blue, white finished 60-minute-graduated unidirectional bezel.

Bracelet Choice

The new TUDOR Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue comes with a choice of three watch straps, the steel rivet bracelet with a polished and satin finish and a push button folding clasp, a soft touch strap with a steel folding clasp or the signature TUDOR fabric strap in blue with a silver coloured band and traditional steel buckle.

The Movement

Powering the new TUDOR Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue model is the Manufacture Calibre MT5402, a second generation of TUDOR manufactured movements certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

Designed for medium sized watches, the Manufacture Calibre MT5402 beats at a frequency of 28,800 per hour with 27 jewels. Measuring at 26mm in diameter and displays hour, minute and second functions and an impressive power reserve of up to 70-hours.

Our Verdict

Unquestionably, TUDOR have lived up to the building anticipation surrounding their eagerly awaited watch launch of 2020, capturing the spirit of the famous Black Bay collection with the traditional atheistic features that we have all come to know and love about the divers’ collection. All with the technically advanced, manufactured, certified chronometer movement built for longevity, robustness and reliability beat at the very heart of the timepiece.
